The Loon's Morning Stretch

It's Loon week on my blog! (I promise not to post all 185 photos! Ha!) I'm hoping I will be able to show you through my photos why I have such passion for these birds.

If you would like to hear some of the Loon's different calls - click HERE. Once you are on this page, you have several different loon calls to choose from. My favorite is the 'Wail'- I typically hear it in the early evening on our lake. Which call is your favorite?

Great pictures. Harriet paid the most attention to the "yodel!"

Hi Shelley,
I like your beautiful Loons. My favorite call is the Wail. I didn't know they had so many different calls. I have a CD that has the Wail of the Loon in it and I always like to hear it. Thanks for sharing.

I agree, show all the loon photos you want. These are gorgeous! I think I like the tremolo call, but they are all beautiful. Thanks for the link.

They're beauties Shelley, no wonder you love them so much.
Great link for the sounds, as I've never heard one before. My favourite? Two.....that manic Tremolo, and the Wail

These are WONDERFUL!!! I envy you your trip!! I can't imagine kayaking and taking photos like these...first one has to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time!

Beautiful photos Shelly!! They are so pretty. I can tell you are really excited to be there with all your Loons..Ha! You lucky gal!! It must be so peaceful there, listening to their sounds all the time. I miss going to lakes but I did in my younger years. I used to go out on them fishing, all alone in a little boat. Loved the peacefulness of it. So I know how you feel. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos!!

One of the reasons I love it BWCAW is to hear those haunting calls. They always sends chills down my spine late in the day.

Your Loons are so beautiful, Shelley. I'm looking forward to Loon Week! Heck, make it Loon Month for all I care! It's hard for me to choose a favorite sound, but I guess I'd say it's a toss-up between the wail and the tremolo. Can't wait to see more pics!

Hi, Shelley! Sorry to be absent for so long...

I've never really seen or been interested much in loons, so I'm looking forward to discovering why they are such a passion for you. They do look cool...much more interesting than Canada geese, for sure. When we visit your B&B, I hope to see them on one of the kayaking trips you're leading! :-)

Cant get enough loon photos Shelley! Keep 'em coming. I couldn't listen to the calls for some reason, but I would think the wail is the most evocative?

I can never hear or see a loon without thinking of "On Golden Pond".. although I like the wail I think I like the Tremolo call better. The wail is so haunting! Keep the photos coming, I love 'em.

Loons ARE fascinating.
My mother-in-law's camp is on Maidstone Lake in Northern Vermont and there are loons that nest there.
I'm usually up before the sun and I go out to see them as they pass by the dock on their morning rounds.
They are HUGE birds. Can't wait for the rest of the weeks pictures.

That wail is AWESOME. The pictures are fantastic. I can see why you love these birds so much...you get to almost interact with them. We rarely hear or see them on our lake, but I sure wish we did.

Wow Shelley what great photos!! Just love that stretch and oh yea, you posted the calls!! Of course my fav is that wail of a call..I would be out fishing with my Dad at dawn when we would hear them call to each other...a call you have to be present to hear..then you know the goosebumps it gives you when you hear it on a foggy lake..very early in the day!!
Thanks!!

Will I always like insane laughter even when it comes from people. The wail is how I think of the Loon's best call.

Shelley,
I cannot say that I have a favorite loon call, I love them all! I only wish the loons would linger in my area a little longer.

These are beautiful shots and the one you posted Sunday is totally awesome!
