I don't have any birds for you today but how about my Red Squirrel? He eats enough bird seed to qualify as a bird! He's even become bold enough to run up to me as I'm filling the bird feeders. And yes, I'm guilty of feeding and encouraging him. Ah...the life of an animal lover.....

I do the same w/ our gray squirrels, and Mrs. Squirrel recently had babies, so we have youngsters at the feeders too...They drive Sassy Girl crazy... Red Squirrel is beautiful!

Shelley, he is so cute!!! I believe God made all squirrels that way so people wouldn't shoot them because they didn't have the heart. ;o)
He's really pretty! I don't think I have ever seen a Red Squirrel in person. But we do have Fox Squirrels. I feed them peanut butter sandwiches by hand. If there is none on the porch banister, they come and look into the window or door to let us know they are hungry.
He is beautiful!
If I happened across your bird feeder, I would probably munch on a seed or two also. :)
They are persistent little guys.

A lovely picture. Are you sure he isn't growing feathers?:)
Blessings,Ruth
HI Shelley~ I found you when I was visiting Karen at Some Days Are Diamonds! I love the pic of your little red squirrel! When I was about 12, we lived in the country in PA., we found a baby red squirrel abandoned. We took it in our home and raised it, keeping it in a bird cage. We loved it, and the dog and it played like a cat and dog...one day we had the cage outside on the back porch to allow him to get fresh air...my little niece, then 3, opened the cage and he flew to the woods and we never found him again. :( We missed him, but I've never forgotten him. Thanks for reminding me of my little red squirrel today! You have a lovely blog! ~CC Catherine from "Catherine de th`e Cups"
I love Red Squirrels! And yours is so cute!!! I miss mine. I haven't seen one in over two years now. Post some more of him..Please?? Ha!
Great photo! I love red squirrels. The ones we see during our vacations in the mountains are so wild and crazy....very fun to watch!
It's so nice of you to feed them. Everyone should feed squirrels - they need to eat too!
Oh what a meanie he is... How dare him eat all of the bird's food. You know what we're having trouble with here???? NO--the Siskins are gone thank goodness. It's our CHIPMUNKS... Drive us crazy!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Awww...the squirrels are well fed here....
Well, how could you not treat him? He's adorable!
Hi Shelley,
he is very cute. I love it and the surrounding is very nice too which gives to the pictures a very nice atmosphere. Well done!
Shelly: I saw my first two red squirrels on Saturday. We have so few I had to look up the name. Neat photo of the cutie.
Oh dear Shelley. I've got one too!!! He's in the birdhouse the bluebirds wanted!!! I think I'll let him have that one, but I'm nervous about him living here. They're tough little critters.
This is a beautiful photo and I see you've got snow too. We got about three inches last night and we're expecting more today. My daughter hustled down from Grayling to beat the storm.
How adorable! My squirrels never get that friendly and I certainly spoil them plenty! Reading Carol's comment...maybe I need to try peanut butter sandwiches.
We have a few around too...but now the chipmunks are out. I have asked this before, but does anyone have any ideas of a good birdfeeder that I can put on my deck that is chipmunk proof?
I have seen the ones where there is a bar that lowers if the chipmunks try to get the birdfood out...do they really work???
We live in Belleville, MI and always have had red squirrels at our feeders...so we made one just for them. However, it doesn't keep them from trying to get at the regular bird feeders. Yesterday, I looked out my window and couldn't believe my eyes. We had a black squirrel in our yard. Although we've lived here 20 years, I've never seen a black squirrel in our neighborhood.
Shelley,
I think we are all guilty of feeding these little guys. I guess they keep me watching because they're so clever and we spend so time over the winter allowing them to entertain us with their gymnastics at the feeders!
He sure is a cutie!!
What a beautiful squirrel Shelley! Some of our squirrels have red ears or a bit of red in their fur, but we haven't any all red squirrels! We put seed out as much for the squirrels as the birds too. Every morning Sammy & Stewart (our black & grey squirrel couple)wait on the back deck for their pb sandwich :-)
You have captured a great photo there. Love the composition too. Keep up the good work!
Really a nice look at the red squirrel. We only have the eastern gray squirrel now. When I was younger there was more Fox Squirrels, Red Squirrels and little Red Jimmys than Eastern Gray Squirrels. And now those dominate.
Is there going to be a squirrel eating out of your hand contest?
Awww He's so cute.. I love them too but they can get into trouble if you're not careful!! LOL
I wouldn't comment favourably on our Grey Squirrels BUT the RED now that's a different story. Cute & bold. Lol FAB
I have only 1 red squirrel and he always runs away when I go outside (I suppose the fact that the dog is usually with me has something to do with that!)
I love that little cutie!! (and must admit, I always enjoy my squirrels even though they eat a little too much sometimes...)
Those little guys!! Aren't they the very definition of cheek and sass?!
What a great photo! I have brown, black and these little red squirrels in my yard. My son calls the red one "crazy" because he runs around all crazy. The red one was climbing up my screen, on my window, yesterday during dinner!
Aw... he's cute! :)
Such a beauty, nice photo, I enjoyed all the great bird photos too, specially the Swan.
Hi Shelley. I just moved to Belleville this past January. You seem to know a lot about the birds around here. I work out at Willow Run Airport, and we get TONS of birds out there. I was wondering if you know what the most common birds in this area are. Just curious.
