I've mentioned before how our chickadees at the cabin are quite friendly. I love when they land on my shoulder while I'm filling the feeder. And of course my heart melts when they land in my hand to take that one perfect seed. The photo above is one I took of my husband feeding this angel when we were at Hartwick Pines State Park. They are such brave and nosey birds. I always laugh when I put out a new feeder and a chickadee will appear out of thin air to immediately investigate it.
P.S. Speaking of new bird feeders, where do you like to buy yours? I've been searching online for a good platform, fly through feeder that won't break the bank.

What a special photo!

That amazes me that they will land in someone's hand like that. Great picture, Shelley. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! :)
That is sweet, ours are shy.
I would love to have one land in my hand...they seem skittish with us and fly AWAY instead of to us when we feed them. LOL
The Chickadee is most certainly a Favorite.I love their cheery whistle.
Blessings,Ruth
Those chickadees are somethig else! It seems sometimes bluejays can be almost as tame too, certainly when there is sunflower seed to be had. ATB!
I think I would faint with excitment if a Chickadee would eat from my hand like that!!! What a special moment!
Shelley, that has to be one of the most magical moments, when a bird takes food from your hand like that.
Lovely capture of a great moment.
Chickadees are such friendly little guys! Sometimes when I am shoveling the snow on my deck around the feeders I feel like they're going to fly right into me, but I think their acrobatic skills are too good for that to happen.
We don't have chickadees but we have plenty of house finches and gold finches, not to mention humming birds. I would be ecstatic if one of the finches landed on my hand. The closest I've got to that is a very rambunctious crow, who had taken a fancy to my glasses. I ended up inside the house as I didn't like the look of his beak!
Oh Shelley! I found this great site online! Their feeders are really priced reasonably, I bought lots from them last year and I was thrilled with everything I bought!

I really need to work on getting them to do that here on the mountain Shelley! I got my platform feeder at Wild Birds Unlimited, but have had to replace the string. Other than that it seems to work out. Mine is small but I think they have many sizes. Don't remember how much it cost...the birds seem to like it!
Excellent Sheeley... I'm so stunned how tame they are!
I have these little cuties in my yard where I live now in New England. I have yet to see a red-breasted nuthatch though! In case you don't know, I have moved away from Sycamore Canyon and started a new blog called Kathie's Birds. Hope to see you there!
Lucky you....how neat! I have never had one land on me, but they do fly in to the feeder when I am close by and are usually among the first in the "bird neighborhood" to announce to the rest of the world, "She's filled the feeder..She's filled the feeder."
Have a happy day!
That is so cool. I've got to work on this... :)
Don't go cheap, you just end up spending more in the end.
I love my WBU Dinner Bell feeder AKA the Aspect's Vista Dome. These are made in Rhode Island and come with a lifetime guarantee.
It attracts a wide variety of birds. You can put a seed cylinder on it that lasts for a month or just throw seed in the tray.
Or go with a recycled plastic feeder. They are so much easier to clean and last forever. Birdschoice.com makes all of our Wild Birds Unlimited flythroughs but they also have their own brand that is similar.
They are made in Wisconsin and ours have lifetime guarantees.
Do you think the birds up north are friendlier? I get a lot of scolding down here in mid-Michigan.

Great picture. As for feeders, check out Wild Birds Unlimited.com or BestNest.com. I've bought feeders at both places.
What a beautiful angel!
Such a good friend, Shelley.... I love Chickadees. Our Nuthatches are friendly also.
I buy most of my bird feeders and bird food at our local Lowe's.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
Hugs,
Betsy
P.S. NO SNOW here yet... maybe tomorrow night...
So glad you posted! I was beginning to wonder about you!! About a bird feeder; Dan made one similar to what you described. It was made out of cedar and it lasted a REALLY long time. Sometimes when ya can't find what you want you have to improvise!
What a sweet picture! I've never had a wild bird eating out of my hand, it must be such a special moment :) I think it's also pretty amazing how they land on your shoulder while you fill the feeders! They know you are a gentle person and they can trust you :)
oh how precious,
these little fellows are my favorite
...sweet, sweet bird and a sweet, sweet photo. LOVE this!!
(I always get my birding stuff through our local Mason Wild Bird Center. They do take orders over the phone...)
What a precious encounter.
congratulation for your work from Tenerife!!!
So jealous of this! Adorable!
I love chickadees :)
