Winter Visitors

There are many reasons why I love winter but one of the biggest ones is the birding opportunities it brings. I see an increase of some of my regular visitors and I have some winter ones to look forward to. Hoping the Redpolls and Pine Siskins come back and eat out of my hand this year. I am also hoping to see the elusive Snowy Owl this winter.....a girl can dream....

Here are some of my feeder regulars. What are you seeing right now?

My nutty White-breasted nuthatch. I love watching him store suet on the trees around our cabin property.

My chickadees are much loved and are very sassy, I can't tell you how many times they scold me when the feeder is empty. Some of them will even land on my shoulder and head as I'm refilling the feeders as if to say hurry up!

My sweet goldfinches are so shy. I love listening to their pretty chirps.

The purple finches are starting to come around more and may rival the chickadees in being a feeder hog.

What great pictures, Shelley! Wow! They land on your head while you are filling the feeder? You really are the bird whisperer! :D

I am giggling at Daisy's comment - that is cute about you being the bird whisperer! I've never seen such pretty photos of birds. Thank you for sharing these. Hope all is going well for you. Harriet sends you and Scout a hug and we'll be looking for your card. Hope you and the family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Beautiful, Shelley.... I took pictures today of some of the same birds--who came to our feeders... I will post them Wednesday...

We don't have Purple Finches here --but I had a male House Finch --which looks similar...

Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

These are beautiful shots of beautiful birds Shelley. It's such a thrill having them eat from your hand like that. They certainly know they can trust you.
Hope you get to see a Snowy.......magnificent birds.

Lovely photos! You get such a nice variety. Here I've only been seeing chickadees and a pair of gray jays and an occasional woodpecker. Of course I see ravens flying overhead and all over town.

Wow you got a beautiful collection of nice birds at your feeder. We do not see that much nowadays cause it is getting dark, but starlings, redwings, snow bunting, mealy redpoll are amongst the most common. Well we got a massive influx of bohemian waxwing last week and that was pretty awesome. I hadn't seen them for two years!

Hahaha I just realized I said awwww at every picture!

LOVE your chickadee there Shelley! The variety is just starting to pick up here. Feeder activity is still rather light surprisingly.

Birds are curious, aren't they? Marvelous photos!

Very nice pics Shelley. Those shown are my regulars as well. Now redpolls and pine siskins only come this far south during a rare "irruption" year. Three years ago they were at my feeder as well as about twenty five crossbills in my pines.

Beautiful photos, as always. I would love to see any owl this winter. I know they are out there. I've heard Great Horned owls calling in our woodlot!

Great shots Shelley! Enjoy!
I am missing my Red-bellied Woodpeckers, I sure hope they return soon. They stuck around all summer last year.

Your photographs of the birds are so good. I wish I could get good pictures of the birds around here. We have many nuthatches, finches and chickadees, plus towhees, Stellar Jays, and sometimes, even this time of the year - grosbeaks. The chickadees nag me too~

I have missed you and your lovely birds!
I can just hear that chick-a-dee scolding you!
Our snowbirds, Juncos, arrived last week and have taken over the feeders, much to the discontent of the "regulars".

oh, just found your blog with Scout he is the most beautiful, has the most expressive face. I had a dog that looked exactly like him when I was growing up. He was my best friend for years and did everything with me, but we didn't know what he was we thought he was a collie.
There's just something about those wonderful brown eyebrows :O)

I hope you get all the Pine Siskins. We had such an irruption we took all the feeders down except for the suet. There must have been 50 or more fluttering around and tossing seed all over the place.

The Purple Finches have arrived and so have the wonderful little Red-breasted Nuthatches. I just love those little things.

These are lovely pictures, Shelley. I haven't paid much attention to who is visiting our feeders--things are pretty crazy around here. But it seems I see the nuthatches and chickadees when I do glance out the window.
