This morning I had the good fortune of having the Red bellied Woodpecker visit my yard. This picture shows him storing the suet in the tree that he just took off the suet feeder.

I love the red bellied woodpecker. I didn't know that they stored food.
Lovely photos and a fine blog. I just stumbled upon your blog because I'm interested in wildlife & conservation too.
Keep up the good work. Love the log cabin, by the way!
This is great stuff for those of us living in the north country and enjoy nature! I've added this blog to my site! Thanks for sharing! By the way, spotted a pileated woodpecker doing serious sculpture on a very mature cedar trunk the other day. In no time he manage to burrow a hole about three inches deep into the trunk!
Red-bellies are so fun to watch! Great blog, I love birding in Michigan.
Good birding to you!
Shelley, what a wonderful blog! Love your photos. I learned something new about woodpeckers, too! :)
