Aww...it's just a small female downy woodpecker! She is welcome to stay, but she is a noisy one for her size!

Awesome pictures. I am so glad you have one that shows the hairy and downey side by side. I can use that as a guide because I think I have a hairy WP visiting my suet feeder, but am not 100% sure. Now I can compare using your photo.

Shelly, you don't need help for talking to all those animals. I do it all the time too. Every time I drive to work (or anywhere, for that matter), I say hi to the cows, the goats, the pigs, whatever I see. I talk to my birdies too, and wish them welcome to my feeders. My husband is used to it, but I have to be careful when I'm with other people, lest they think I'm a little crazy for talking to the animals!
