Bob's been busy

Guess what Bob the Mourning Dove has been up to?!

Bob's wife Mary is sitting on a nest in our roof gutters as we speak. They have been nesting here the past 3 years. I already have 20 mourning doves in my yard - what's another 2?

We have Mourning Doves also, Shelley, but I don't know where they nest. I think they are in the empty lot next door. They have been coming to our feeders this week for the first time. Until this week, they would only come into the backyard --on the ground. They are such gorgeous birds, aren't they???

Hugs,
Betsy

Aww! Is Bob going to pass out striped sunflower seeds for his new arrivals? Congrats to Bob and Mary. You're right, Shelley. What's another two?

I love doves! I own at least 25 doves, they do love LOVE! And rearing young. I have a few wild doves that hang out around my dove cotes...just cooing at the white ringnecks inside to cotes, and also taking advantage of the seed spilling out of them...I think it wondrous that both the male and female dove make milk for their babies and tend them equally.

Oh, how true! LOL! Careful, you could end up with hundreds!

Will they get flooded out when it rains or pours. Usually mourning doves are not clever nest builders and many fall off the branches onto the ground. But still their numbers seem to increase ten fold each year.

When I first read your title, my first thought was "poopin", but I was wrong. Makin babies is WAY better!

See what all that billing and cooing led to! So, Bob, let us know which side of the family the little ones take after, you or the missus. Haha, just kidding, Bob!

I love the doves...we have some here too. We have never seen them nesting or their little babies, either. So, if you get the chance to photograph the little ones, I would LOVE to see them. I know you can do it, if anyone can!
