This weekend up at the log cabin was probably my best birding days. There were the loons (which I unsuccessfully chased w/ a camera but was treated to their haunting call as they flew away from me), Caspian Tern (I think I will need to call in my bird experts this week to confirm!), Blue Heron and so much more. But the first treat of my weekend was seeing the Rose-breasted Grosbeak. I haven't seen one in over 5 years (back when my dad had a cabin in northern Michigan.) Just a beautiful and curious bird. (And a little hog at my bird feeders I must add!)

Pretty cool! If our blogs didn't have our locations on them, you'd sware we were only a state away from each other. Nice pictures and congrats on having a great birding day!
I love them too - the "all fluffed up" one is my favorite - I just love the "ruffled feathers."
How beautiful. These are among my favorite birds. I don't see them often enough!
J. Karl - Yes, I'm starting to believe our states border each other!
Birdlady - I agree - a fluffed up bird is the cutest!
Sandpiper - They're on my favorites now too.
Birdgirl - thank you, thank you! And wish me luck in my Loon "hunt"!
Nice picture. These dapper fellows showed up at our feeder this week too. Just as their northern cousins, the Evening Grosbeaks, left.
The warblers are starting to appear here in north-central PA and if it weren't for the blackflies piling on, I'd be out with the scope and camera in hand.
Thank you Joated -nice to have you visit. I enjoyed your blog very much!
I love the Thoreau quote you use in your mast head. Might have to "borrow" it for a future blog Sunday.
Your grosbeak photos are lovely - I really MUST get a zoom lens!
Hi Shelley - I think this is the first time I'm commenting on your blog. I think I found one of your comments on another blog. I really enjoy reading your posts, and your photos are lovely. I also visited your other blogs - I really enjoy seeing your photos of your log cabin. Great work.
These are so beautiful of the sweet girl. Love them.

Sandy - "sweet" describes them perfectly.
