Okay, now I want you to admit it. Do you have a bird feeder that is in bad shape but you're still using it even though you know you should've put it in the trash long ago? Well that's my story...but I don't have the heart to throw this feeder away. True, it's missing the plastic plexi glass on one side. And a squirrel has chewed the wood to smithereens. But the birds still seem to like it....
Here's my feisty Cardinal enjoying the feeder....
My Red-breasted Nuthatch has no problem with it...
...okay, maybe not everyone likes my ghetto bird feeder!

Well as long as it is visited by our friends, why do you want to change it! I think it is pretty obvious they like it as it ias... and give you the opportunity to make very nice pictures of them while they are around!!!
Thanks alos for you fidelity to my blog. It is much appreciated!
Yes me to... always love to see you.
The birds visit, they love it..
just make sure you fill it to the brim x x x
I would imagine the birds like being able to get to the seed under the shelter. All they know is that they're able to get a meal!
Wonderful shots! Wish I could get that close to my feeder!
Be. Still. My. Heart....that cardinal!!!! GORGEOUS!!
I got your comment on my blog about getting together! I am SUPER excited and can't wait...see my comment on my blog back to you and email me! When you know the exact dates, for SURE we will plan something. I am so excited!
Lovely shots Shelley, but that Cardinal is a beauty.
Great caption from the Chickadee lol
Hi Shelley
Ha - we both posted about our bird feeders today :-) I think yours still looks pretty good! I'm really surprised the squirrels have left mine alone. They ate through the plastic silo one I had that attached to the kitchen window :-)
Naturally the chickadee would be mouthing - the smallest one with the biggest mouth!!! ha ha Very sweet pictures.
OK,so I'm not the only one who has feeders that look less than perfect. The birds don't seem to care.
Blessings,Ruth
They say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'
That saying does not apply here.
bahahaha!
My only problem would be that the squirrel would sit down inside it and the birds would never have a chance. That cardinal sure is pretty!
Thank you, now I don't feel so guilty about my shabby feeders.
As always, your shots take my breath away!
Hugs and belly rubs to Scout,
~K
Yup those chickadees can be fussy can't they. I can't believe my baby Scout is 75 lbs. He was so little when I did that wall hanging. Oh well all the more to love. :-)
HA HA HA! So cute, Shelley! :)
I think you have me beat with the missing glass but at least mine is held together with duck tape and even that is shot.
Ooops...duct tape...:-)
Thanks alos for you fidelity to my blog. It is much appreciated!

Hey, this isn't bad. Kinda looks like a gazebo to me.
I just threw one feeder in the trash after it had an encounter with a moose, but it was plastic. I'm debating whether I should put out an old wood one, but that might just be tempting the moose to nibble.
Oh..for the birds it does not matter whether old or new!
Main issue is that they get something to eat.

Hahaha.....we have one of those! The birds like it best. Love your red-breasted nuthatch. I wish we had on of those around here. I had one visit, but he just stayed a few days this autumn.
Shelly: Fun shots at the feeder, I'm sure they don't mind the condition.
It has character.
Some of your larger visitors must like the extra wing room!
The birds don't care at all, obviously. I love the little chickadees - they are so cute. I just moved to a little cottage and put up a new feeder yesterday. Why does it take birds so long to figure out there's food? Please also read my blog - it's about my 19 yo son who died duanessong.blogspot.com
Oh defintely I do. Love the photos.
Hi Shelley. A squirrel has recently been trying to destroy two hanging seed feeders. The only real damaged item is an old nest box with no roof and half a bottom intact...another job to sort out!
BTW..I know of your love for our Robin so if you let me have your e-mail (just send a 'Yes' direct to fabearlybirder@googlemail.com) I will send you a picture to keep. Cheers FAB.
Hahaha, that last picture is too cute!! Great post, it sure made me smile :)
The birds don't seem to mind. We have some feeders that need replacing but they've become such a part of the landscape, we don't even notice their age anymore. lol
Shelley go to my blog! There is a message there for you.Sharon Sorry to be so short but I am late for a meeting!
Yes, I admit it. Now I feel better.
Those are great photos! We just started buying the suets and enjoy keeping those out.
Looks like it works just fine. I don't think the birds care what it looks like...it's what's inside that counts.
Love the cardinal. I haven't see one in ages!
A squirrel destroyed our squirrel feeder. I pointed out to him that he was being very counter-productive! :)
I think the feeders that are used the most take a lot of abuse and end up looking pretty ragged...but the little chickadee says it all... hey lady! but he's right there eating anyway. Nice post!

Ahhh Shelley, it has such sentimental value!! Keep it!! Just add a new one!!
love your birds---will they an award??? ....you may ick one up at my blog...enjoy
Stunning shots! I love them all!
Magic images shelley,fantastic Cardinal shot.
John.
I would think any surface that allows for food is okay with the birdees! They just love that you take such good care of them!! :-)
Love that last picture. Too cute!
If the birds don't mind, who am I to complain! Love your beautiful photos...always!!! Hugs, Coralie
Be sure to come back and visit me again today as I'm celebrating my 500th post and having a VINTAGE BOOK GIVEAWAY!!!
Kind of looks like a couple of mine! But it will be used until it falls totally apart. I just love visiting you & your exquisite pics.
Have a beautiful week ~

Looks fine for everybody but the Chickadee. I say keep it.
Cute! I like your caption for the Chickadee. I started making some pop bottle feeders recently because it seems that no matter how much you spend on the nicest of feeders they always end up in the trash at some point. I got sick of spending the money so I found some fun things to use (food grade, non-chemical) around the house. It's actually pretty fun to think up new 'designs' too :)
