Naughty

I really think spring is going to come early this year. Today I saw my Mourning Doves building their nest in the same place they do every year - my gutters. They must know something we don't - I'm convinced!

Anyways, here's the naughtiness that's going on in my yard!

"Bob & I are planning on having 10 babies this year!"

"After I eat this cracker you gave me, I'm still going to raid your bird feeder!"

I'm looking at the squirrel going "What is that he's eating? Is that a cracker? Did Shelley give him a cracker or did he steal it?" Then I realized you gave them captions!!!!
Cute! I'm just slow.

Hi Shelley, I saw a dove in our yard today---WAY up in a tree. He was too far for me to get a picture. Just saw one though!!!

When I first saw the squirrel picture, I thought he had the entire suet cake out of the suet feeder... I'm glad it was just a cracker!!!! I was wondering how that squirrel was smart enough to get the suet out of the feeder. HA HA HA..

Hope you had a good day.
Hugs,
Betsy

These are hungry little creatures! All they want is FOOD! They don't care whose food it may be. And you can't fill them up! ☺

Poor mourning doves build the worse nests ever. It's a good thing that they have more than one brood....How is Bob doing?

How funny ! The wild doves are hanging around my white dove pens and I am sure there is one male who is courting my 2 lovely dove girls in the herb garden dove cage.

We had a hawk flailing against our big dovecote, no doubt trying to help himself to some well raised and fattened doves, that is naughtiness in my book. But I am sure the hawk only thought it appropriate....I mean, a well lit pen of doves is just fast food isn't it ?

Beautiful photography.

Great pictures. What is the squirrel eating do you know?

I so hope you are right and the birds know something we don't. Who needs a groundhog when you have birds!! Please let spring come earlier than they are predicting!!

It was... I kid you not, 75 degrees here yesterday! Balmy! I am expecting to see nest building any old time now. :c) LOL at your squirrel Shelley!

Squirrels and Doves....things we love but at times what a nuisance!! Love your captions!

LOL! Bob is quite a breeder! My squirrels would have ignored the cracker and gone straight to the bird seed.

Those doves can be pretty persistent when they decide upon a nest site, no matter how terrible the site may be. We played the you start it, I'll take it down game for two weeks one year.

Nature is smarter than we are. Nature Knows! I always kept a separate feeder for my squirrels in hopes of luring them away from the bird feeders. Sometimes it helped but when the seed was gone they would be right back to their raiding ways!

We've noticed our "resident" doves sitting together on the roof top :-) they build their nest each year above the arbour beside our bedroom window. I'll have to go and have a peek to see if there's any sign of nest building (although I think they might just "re use" what's there) Looking forward to following your Bob - 10 baby doves ...wow :-)

Woow climate change you said!!! Yeh it looks like the summer is coming early in most places... I love the squirrel and yest despite the chocolate bar this guy will still steal some food in your feeder ;-) Nice shots of him!!

I love that dove photo Shelley. The colours of the leaves echo the subtle colour on the doves head and in the wing too. Lovely! It's exciting to see the days lengthen isn't it! (-:

Gosh you made me snicker! And I needed it!

We haven't had any Doves all Winter but in the past few days several have shown up. And those darned squirrels, I'm about to wring their little necks if they don't stay off my peanut feeder!!! Maybe if I put some crackers out it will help ; )

Can they really be that cute and still naughty?

Our high today was 47 degrees! Too bad it's only Feb. 10th and this was only a spring teaser.

Bob the mourning dove, gettin' busy, eh? Look out! I love the squirrel picture not only because it's adorable, but the angle makes it very interesting from a compositional perspective. Seeing him eating a cracker reminds me of how when I was little we used to feed Ritz crackers out of hand to a squirrel that would come to our patio door.

I've been throwing seed over the fence to bribe the squirrels to stay out of the yard and my other feeders. It worked for a while, but now we have five times as many squirrels and even a few deer taking advantage of our efforts.

You are so lucky to have the doves nest every year. How much fun is that? I'm looking forward to the future photos!

Never satisified, but isn't that the nature of the beast? This is a very nice photo.
