Have you ever seen a Mourning Dove turn its head 360 degrees and then go to sleep?!
(Remember that horror movie the Exorcist when Linda Blair turned her head all the way around? That movie scared the heck out of me! Anyways, it was the 1st thing I thought of when I saw this Dove. Yep, I need help!)

I hate that movie. I saw it years later on tv and it still scares me.
Beautiful dove.
Funny picture....I guess I'm glad I didn't see the movie.
...haha...a possessed Mourning Dove! I remember when that movie came out. I heard so many scary things I didn't go to it!! I still haven't watched it all the way through.
Looks a bit uncomfortable.
My neck is always so stiff and I'm always joking about it would feel good to be able to twist it all the way around!!!!!
My word verif. is PHOOFO ha ha
Nice shot of this beautiful bird!
Well, that visual will stay with me forever...chuckle! I'll never see a dove the same way again...
Kit
I had not thought about a dove doing that.

LOL Shelley... a possessed dove!
laughing too hard...can't type...
No help needed Shelly. Plainly you and the Dove are just "Bewitched." Oops wrong movie.
Hi, Our crazy Mourning Doves think they own our feeders. Two of them were in the seed plate AT the same time yesterday.... They take up the whole thing!!!!! ha
Have a wonderful Saturday.
Hugs,
Betsy
LOL! I hate movies like that, but can sure see the likeness! How funny! Is that Bob?
I'm soooo glad I haven't seen that film by the sounds of it. Nice photo of Mourning Dove, even if it was a bit spooky!
That's a real head spinner! ;) Cute shot, Shelley. Hope you're having a great weekend.
...funny I just saw a jay do the same thing the other day..and stopped to watch as it was fascinating.
I've never seen it (and don't intend to--I hate scary movies), but I've heard enough about it to know that's probably the first thing I would have thought as well! I can't imagine that being a comfortable way to fall asleep. Fascinating!
Great film, and a great capture of the Dove.
I have not seen the movie, enough scary stuff going on in my life at the time...and yes, I watch my flock of Ringneck doves perform this amazing contortion daily. Aren't birds amazing? As usual, great photography Shelley!
Now what about those owls...with their contortions and big, BIG look- at-you straight-on eyes...?
I've never seen a dove do this, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Not being fond of them, I've always suspected they were disquised demons.
I remember when the Exorcist came out - I think it was 1973, and I was 26 years old, and my Dad forbid me to go see it (like he could have stopped me). But I didn't go see it - don't know that I ever have seen it. That kind of stuff scares me...but the Dove ? You are too funny.
I see them do that all the time. And speaking of that movie. I can't watch it now, even though I did years ago.
Great shot Shelley,good capture.
John.
I'll never look at another of those birds the same again☺ Thanks for the mental picture!
Shelley: Just trying to make sire it is safe all around, fun post.
No big deal..I swear my Mother did the same thing.
ha LOL
That movie kept me from sleeping for weeks! I waited for my bed to shake every night! (Crazy thoughts of a 12 year old!)
At least it is not spewing pea soup. Very nice capture Shelley!
An excellent photo. I have watched and filmed them quite a bit and am amazed at some of the motions they go through.
I can also see why you are fascinated with the loons. They are beautiful mysterious birds. I always enjoy your loon photos.
I stood in a long line for that movie when I was in college. It was creepy then but now not so much. It looks like that Dove is giving you the stink eye! I love your sense of humor!
Why I nearly fell out of my chair in fear when I saw that dove!!!!
