Another scene from the Exorcist?

Have you ever seen a Mourning Dove turn its head 360 degrees and then go to sleep?!

(Remember that horror movie the Exorcist when Linda Blair turned her head all the way around? That movie scared the heck out of me! Anyways, it was the 1st thing I thought of when I saw this Dove. Yep, I need help!)

I hate that movie. I saw it years later on tv and it still scares me.

Beautiful dove.

I'm soooo glad I haven't seen that film by the sounds of it. Nice photo of Mourning Dove, even if it was a bit spooky!

I've never seen it (and don't intend to--I hate scary movies), but I've heard enough about it to know that's probably the first thing I would have thought as well! I can't imagine that being a comfortable way to fall asleep. Fascinating!

Great film, and a great capture of the Dove.

I have not seen the movie, enough scary stuff going on in my life at the time...and yes, I watch my flock of Ringneck doves perform this amazing contortion daily. Aren't birds amazing? As usual, great photography Shelley!

Now what about those owls...with their contortions and big, BIG look- at-you straight-on eyes...?

I've never seen a dove do this, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Not being fond of them, I've always suspected they were disquised demons.

I remember when the Exorcist came out - I think it was 1973, and I was 26 years old, and my Dad forbid me to go see it (like he could have stopped me). But I didn't go see it - don't know that I ever have seen it. That kind of stuff scares me...but the Dove ? You are too funny.

I see them do that all the time. And speaking of that movie. I can't watch it now, even though I did years ago.

That movie kept me from sleeping for weeks! I waited for my bed to shake every night! (Crazy thoughts of a 12 year old!)

An excellent photo. I have watched and filmed them quite a bit and am amazed at some of the motions they go through.

I can also see why you are fascinated with the loons. They are beautiful mysterious birds. I always enjoy your loon photos.

I stood in a long line for that movie when I was in college. It was creepy then but now not so much. It looks like that Dove is giving you the stink eye! I love your sense of humor!
