Piggy

What's special about this Female Grosbeak? Well she stayed on my feeder for about a half hour straight gorging herself.

But I must point out that she was very kind and allowed the Chickadees to dine with her. But only so long as they stayed on the opposite side of the feeder. Ha!

Shelley,
Gee, I don't blame her a bit..I bet she has had little time to feed herself with all the up bringing she has been involved with. She really does have a serious look of intent on her face when you took this photo. She looks really healthy and your pix really shows off her neat browns and creams!

Now, now Shelley,
She's not fat, she's fluffy!
Great shot!

I don't have Grasbeak I wish I did,but the little chickadees have come back. And a big black and white woodpecker is at the feeder and he or she is new here to us.

After stuffing herself like that, I'll bet she had a slow take off!

Shelley, she is lovely. And probably needed all that extra food. I never noticed before how much weight the mama birds lose while they are raising the young ones. (Perhaps this is the first year that I've really paid attention, but I've noticed it with several of the species once the babies have fledged and the moms return to the feeders.)

We never did see any more RB Grosbeaks this summer. Apparently the one who visited in the spring was just stopping for a snack on his way further north. (Maybe he'll tell his friends, and I'll have a few more take their travel break here.) :)

Have a great week!

All I can say is ,the food you offer must be the right kind, for her to stay that long.

Beautiful picture....Her color seems so much deeper and richer than the ones we had earlier this spring. I think these particular birds are so delightful and really seem to pose for you at times--especially the guys.

I had to chuckle at your post, looks like someone was pretty hungry! Nice pic.

When the Grosbeaks came through here in spring, they seemed to be at the feeders most of the time!!!! Beautiful birds --especially the male.

Glad Mrs. Grosbeak was nice to the Chickadees though.

Hugs,
Betsy

I've not seen ONE this year. :c( For some reason, they just are not at my feeders this year. Maybe I'll see some migrating.

They can really put away the sunflower seeds, can't they? I've had quite a few here too, including the one missing the upper half of his beak. Doesn't slow him down though - he pretty much eats the suet with sunflower chips in it that I put out for him.

I'm sure it is just the way she is hunkered down stuffing her beak that makes her look fat :-) When she straightens up and flies...assuming she can get lift off...she will look slim!

She must be a great mom!

Great shot of her Shelly! Maybe she's already loading up for her flight south..LOL I think she's just comfortable there. Just hanging out, as they say..

She does look a little on the porky side, (-: tho as others have said, she deserves it after raising a family. Lovely rich photo of her Shelley.

I am glad she was a polite Piggy at the feeder and I have enjoyed your photo and I am glad she got to fill up at your feeder! She was probably ready for a meal without interruption of the kids!

I like my dinner partners to stay on their side of the table too. And hands off that bowl of taters.

For whatever reason, it's nice that 'miss piggy' stayed around that long for you to photograph. I'll bet it was fun and interesting to watch.
