The picture is not as clear as I wanted - but can you please help identify these lovely ducks? I've had no luck so far with my Michigan field guide....Thank you!

They look like a scaup species to me. I'm not sure which one.
I agree with john. It looks like a scaup. I'm leaning toward the greater scaup.
I also would agree that it is one of the Scaup Species!f
Definitely Scaup. I am leaning toward Lesser. The head looks a little taller on the female in the middle and male on the left. However the male on the right has the more typical rounded head of a Greater.
No way of telling with one photo. It's a coin flip. Great shot though. This is a great shot for ABC Wednesday. S for Scaup.

Shelley, My guess would be a Lesser Scaup. I'll ask my birding friend to stop by. She's good at this.
I am her birding friend and I agree with everyone that it's scaup. I too lean towards lesser because of the smaller bill and the coloring on the female.
Thank you to everyone! I'm happy to know the name of the beautiful ducks I was viewing that day!
Yes I would say Lesser Scaup also. What we call a "blue-bill"
I change my guess to the lesser scaup. I found new information that I hadn't found before. Great sighting either way. Must be wonderful to be so close to water and have such a wide variety of visitors.
