Response from the Siskins

Dear Shelley,

We are in receipt of your letter requesting that we (the Pine Siskins) leave your bird feeders and migrate out of here. Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, we will need to extend our stay. Additionally, we heard you sweet talking the Red Polls and telling them they could have all the thistle they want. Well if they stay, we are staying!

Your friends,

The Pine Siskins

P.S. By the way....

What a cute post, Shelley... I was SO hoping to get rid of ours--but they must have known I'd be back. I have only put out sunflower seeds ---and the siskins aren't supposed to like them.. HA!!! They DO!!!!

Haven't put out the thistle or nyger at all yet... Oh Well---guess they are here to stay!!!! Darn!
Hugs,
Betsy

Way to go Siskins. They are quite brave to stand up for their rights and equality in the eyes of Nature.

LOL! LOL! You are so funny! I think you have a mutiny on your hands! You might as well give up and buy some more seed and feeders for everyone :-) Love that photo!

Shelley - you can at least give the pine siskins credit for responding so quickly. LOL ;o) BTW, send a few pine siskins my way - I'd be more than happy to feed them. ;o)

LOL..I think I see a 'gesture' being sent your way...I have used a lot of thistle this winter...I think they eat better than I do...

...you are hysterical. Love it!

Silly me...I put out a new thistle bag today and filled my thistle feeder...can't wait to see what happens tomorrow! I only have out black old in my other feeders...cause they ate all the good stuff!

OH...my kids saw a coopers hawk get a cardinal yesterday. The cardinal hit our window trying to get away.

Too cute! Did they put the message in a bottle and throw it through your window? ha ha

With my feeders down for a week now, the siskins have all pretty much dispersed, though I did see one straggler, who thankfully did not look sick, hanging out with the goldfinches.

Shelly: It looks like everyone is happy except the one who fills the feeder.

Guess they told you! Besides, who could turn away something so beautiful? ; )

I was also hoping these little birdees would move on...guess that stubborn streak is in their genes!!
Glad they set you straight about their intentions! Maybe this week the colder winds from the north will call their name!

There's no arguing with those sassy Siskins Shelley! I think you may have to give in and let them stay a wee while longer! (-:

Most of the pine siskins and common redpolls here in southern Minnesota are gone--just in the last week since the weather's warmed up. They must be heading north by way of Michigan!

Sounds like a good compromise to me.

Love that first pic with all the red! Very cool. We've finally got some redpolls hanging around, and a cardinal, after a cardinal-free winter (unlike last year when we were getting four at a time.) Lovely photos. :)

Well what did you expect from those ill behaved siskins? Maybe you should try the Uncle Remus theory of bird feeding. Go out and smooch them and tell them they are cute and loveable and you want them to stay for ever. I'm thinking that they will take off in day or two!

Oops, you've been found out! Well, I guess a little bird told them...

I have been reading so much about how much the Pine Siskins eat I have decided that was who was eating me out of house and home before I left on vacation. I was gone so long they gave up and left. (Think went up to Betsy's) I have not seen one since I returned from vacation.

LOL Shelley!!!! So funny!!!

The siskins are staying until the last redpoll leaves that's for certain!! ;o)

Oh, they are persistent little rascals. There's no way they will leave as long as you have thistle out for them. And they DO believe it is only for them.

I love that! (And I love the siskins too)
