I know sometimes a bird's diet can play a factor in their coloring. So what orange food was my Redpoll eating? LOL!
How neat is THAT?!
OH MY WORD... he is so cute. Thank you for sharing this little fellow. It amazes me how close you can get to these creatures. I took some shots at geese today... from the inside of my home. Happy Wordless Wednesday!
He must have gotten some orange berrys.Patsy
Hummmm....Orange and Yellow..Have you been feeding it Candy corn?ngle
I hear that the lady down the way has been putting her pumpkin pies out on her window sill to cool and was wondering why they had little holes dotting the custard.
Beautiful shot and I've never had an orange one.
Good thing you got a picture of him. I often see birds that vary just a bit from the bird book pictures..and wonder, if there is no one taking pictures of all the birds , and often people viewing the birds have little knowledge of what they are seeing, than there are probably a LOT of birds that just don't fit the bird book description . He is a cutie, isn't he? Maybe he is the rebel in the family and this temporary aberration will disappear as he matures.
Beautiful and beloved creature.
Oh, Shelley, I love him! So cute!
Ha Ha Mildred was funny too..."carrot top" hahaha!
Wow! That is really orange isn't it?I wonder what he would look like under a black light.
I think he was eating sweet potatoes. :D
So neat, Shelley! I have a male house finch that comes to the feeder and he is orange/peachy colored instead of the usual red. Fun!!! That is a beautiful picture of this bird!
Shelly: Did you throw out some orange rind to get this phase? You couldn't done this well on Photoshop.
I bet he was eating CHEETO's..you can't get that orange off you, can you?????
Love the "Orangepoll"!
Perhaps it had the tips frosted, trying to impress. LOL
I actually researched this when I lived in the Alberta foothills, and saw a number of interesting pale birds. It's called leucism; similar to albinism only w/o the pink. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leucism
Lovely photo! Ummmmmmmm.......Carrot and Sweet Potato soup with Tangerine suprise for afters.
