What on earth have you done to make everyone so angry? Yes, I agree that especially in good light, the black above the eyes gives an impression of anger. Nice photos.
I suppose thistle feeder stink sometimes. It is a wonder they don't as we use the sack type and they get wet and I would assume there is a chance of the seed getting moldy. If it gets too bad, they won't touch it until we change the seed.
They certainly seem to have an attitude. I can only judge from your lovely photos as they don't travel this far north. Too bad, as they are pretty little birds, attitude or not.
Hi Shelley, The Goldfinch told me that they just weren't ready to have their picture taken. Next time, ask them before snapping a picture!!!!! Har Har Har...
The first picture is great! He looks like a very well fed yellow sponge bird...like if you poked him it would leave your print in his belly!! I have to admit the others look a little ...as my dad would say.. 'testy' Like "hey! where's the thistle seed?" Nice post.
That first shot makes him look like such the skeptical little fellow. I had a finch feeder that attached to my kitchen window. Needless to say those buggers are pigs and completely dirtied up my windows. No more finch feeders on my windows!
My husband always says he thinks the male goldfinch is prettier than any of the warblers I made him chase these last few months!! lol! I think your little birdees just ate too much..He looks rather stuffed in that first photo..
Nah Shelley they don't look angry. They look befuddled, muddled. Spring gives them a new feather look and they are just all aflutter with spring things!
LOL, they do look grumpy, but I'm smiling! Are you in the market for a new thistle feeder? I love ours. Both ends are removeable so can be filled alternately and it's super easy to clean. There's a spiral perch around the outside to accomodate lots of diners, too. If you like, I can call the nature shop where I purchased it to find out the model and manufacturer.
I think the first one is curious about something, but the rest do look a bit perturbed... that's what happens there shellmo when you love on the siskins too much! Fresh thistle all around! :-)
Shelley, I love that first photo. He is such a deep yellow color, and he looks as if he accusing you of something! What did you do to those little birds? HA HA HA! You make me laugh. :D
I think the first one just looks very fat...so I don't see what he has to complain about. The others do seem a bet testy looking. My goldfinches are not around much...I haven't been providing their favorite seed.

Shelly: Goldfinch with attitude, how neat.

Nope. The male looks inquisitive. He is wondering why the FEMALE is mad. "What did I do now?" LOL
Angry or not, I think the Goldfinch is a beautiful bird. All ours have gone north or somewhere.
Ha ha ha! That first picture is great! Such vivid color!
We get that impression when we change out the feeders, specially when the chatter increases from the Sparrows. Once done everyone starts singing.
LOL! I always think Goldfinches look irritated too.
Take it away and see them beg, that will change some attitude.LOL
Patsy
They do look a little cranky!
They do seem to have a serious look about them.
Blessings,Ruth
They do have a bit of an attitude, don't they? They are such cute, pert little birds. Lots of fun to watch when they start competing for seed.
Great closeups! From what I have observed, they can be pretty selfish at times, but always beautiful to watch.
I thought the top male looked inquisitive and the female looks plumb worn out!
What amazes me even more is to see actual full blown LEAVES!!! Ours still aren't "full blown"!
Goldfinches are intense little birdies!
Your shots are beautiful!
What a stunning colour Shelley!

That third one definitely looks grumpy! I think the first one looks rather comical with a slightly scrunched up beak. (-:
LOL. Mine seem pretty happy; but sometimes those dark brows do give them a grumpy look.
They just need to get some botox injections in between their eyes to get rid of that crease and angry look. ha
Nice shots!

Great captures of their befuddlement!!!!!!
haha! What has happened to our happy little yellow fellows? He definitely looks perturbed!
Great pictures!
LOL Shelley! They can sometimes look as if they want to say something snarky, can't they? :c)
NOOOO!!! Maybe they have to have a frown because they are so SUNNY all the time!!!

I don't think you should take it personally. But maybe the feeder needs a good scrubbing (he,he)...mine does. Great Pix!
Love the bright yellow on these angry guys...
I love your bird photos! I do not see many birds around here since I live smack in the middle of Metro Detroit..
Thanks for bringing the birds to me through your amazing photos!
