I forgot I had this photo as well when the Pileated moved to the other side of the tree. You can see his eye a little bit better. I have big plans to buy some big suet cakes to keep him around and get better shots!
P.S. I will be at the Log & Timber Show in Chicago the next few days so I will have automatic postings of some of my past favorite photos. I'll be sure to catch up with all of you when I get back!

Nice! We have them around here, infact one was on a tree outside my daycare window but I have yet to get a picture. Good Job!
Beautiful photo Shelley!
Have a great time in the windy city. Take warm clothing...they are having some chilly weather.
Shelly: How I do love these woodpeckers. I would like to get a shot of one of these guys. You did a great job on him.
Such an impressive bird - and they are quite large, too! Had one flying above me against the sun and initially though it be a Turkey Vulture, until I saw more detail.
Great shot!
Another lovely photo... ahhhh! have fun at the show.
I've never seen a plieated in my area, I would certainly love to.
Your peanut feeder, can the blue jays use that or is it mostly smaller birds? I was thinking about getting one and hoped the woodpeckers and jays could share whatever I chose.

Be sure and buy the suet, because we want to see more of him.
I think I like the first one better, because of the background. Just my point of view.
Your photographs are always so good.
Oh, just look at him! Have aa good trip - stay safe.
Congrats on the Pileated. They are great to find !
have fun in the windy city. I have a friend from there who goes back every year.
What a perfect autumn photo to show. I love pileated woodpeckers and I miss seeing them. Have fun on your trip!
On your comment about the turkeys, I wondered if anybody would think the same thing as I did. You did!
Thank you for all the comments you leave me. You are a great encourgement.
You know I love the Pileated! Good luck at your show!
This is truly an amazing photo, with the folage in the background, he looks like he is a part of the trunk and blooms.
