Nice photo of the nuthatch, I find they are a lot more skittish than the red breasted.

It can't be lack of food. Just a bad day at the nest.

Uh oh.. you didn't happen to run out of bird food did you Shelly? ;-)

I think "fat" nuthatch would be more appropriate....you've been feeding him too much! You always have such funny shots and captions...we need that smile each day.

We'll have to take him out west and introduce him to the Mountain chickadees, they'd have lots to grumble about I'm sure!

Great shot. I don't think I've seen a cranky nuthatch before. He is definitely out of sorts.

He does look cranky! I think he's upset that there's no Zingerman's in the feeder this morning. :-)

He really DOES look like a dude with an attitude, now doesn't he.
All he needed was a pair of horn-rimmed bifocals to look over the tops of in that shot!
Too funny.

Shelly: You must have the most expressive birds in captivity. They are always giving you the best looks.

That bird looks like it means business, nothing is going to stand between it and the feed.

LOL... he almost looks hungover! :c)

Have you ever tried hand-feeding one of those Shelley? The White-breasted Nuthatch will eventually become tame enough and land on your hand.
Takes a little bit of time though :-)
