I IZ THE BIRD WHISPERER!

P.S. Bird models today were the Redpolls and Siskins. They are looking for an agent and will probably be permanent residents of my backyard. Photos courtesy of my husband. I have to say it again - I iz the bird whisperer!

That is sooo awesome! I had one land on my foot last week, but did not have my camera. You need to publish that photo.

Oh you iz Shelley!!! I knew you'd get those redpolls to perch! And that matching red coat (to the feeder and their little red caps) was a big help!!

Shelly: How did you do that? Training those wild birds has to be really tough. I admire the way you are able to whisper to those birds. Wearing red would be a deterrent in my mind.

You sure iz!

Awwww! Look at that. So very sweet Shelley. Yep, it's official. You iz the whisperer indeed. :c)

I knew you would get some photos of your whispering! Fantastic! It's quite obvious you have extreme patience!

Yes! You are the bird whisperer! I wanna be a bird whisperer! That's awesome. If I was able to do that then I'd never some into the house.

Knatolee said...

First I thought that said "Liz is the bird whisperer." And I thought, "But that's Shelley!" Hee hee! I love how you dressed to match the bird and feeder!

Shelley said...

Fishing guy - I've been talking / singing to them while I fill their feeders and snap photos so they have become pretty used to my presence and would let me get really close to them. On this morning there were so many of them that there wasn't enough room at the feeders so I figured a few of them would go for it if I held my hand near the feeder. Voila! (And I had a chickadee on my head examining the ruckus - the hubby wasn't quick enough w/ the camera - LOL!)

I see you finally got a replacement for St. Francis...:-)

Or maybe you are doing weight lifting and have worked your way up to a Redpoll...:-)

Either way, great pictures.

That is toooo cool. They don't do that for me! Nice photos.

Wow, what a picture! I am going to slow down when I fill the feeders and spend some time talking to them. Love all of your blogs!

Ok, WHAT did you have in that bird seed? Crack?

Second, forget the birds, did y'all see that diamond ring on her finger???
Maybe they were plotting to peck THAT off her hand, instead of the seed???

Neat photo, you are one lucky woman. Reminds me of Snow white and Disney movies...

Mary said...

How incredibly cool! How long did you have to stand there before they would come?

Dave's Bird Watching Blog said...

Not so fast, Shellmo! Siskins don't count...that's like feeding house sparrows a French fry outside of McDonald's. That being said, I must say, a redpoll in hand with snow in the background...yikes! That may even trump a beautiful bluebird.

Consider the challenge accepted, but no points for lame birds. I see our score at 4 to 3-1/2 right now (titmouse, chickadee and redpoll, plus snowy redpoll half point bonus for you...chickadee, bluebird, c wren, and bh nuthatch for me). Game on! :-)

That is so cool! And kudos to your hubby for the great photos.

That's just great Shelley. You must have LOADS of patience, plus I think Evie is right in that they liked the colour of your coat too! (-: It's a great feeling to have them trust you isn't it!

Thank you everyone for your comments- glad you enjoyed my birdy friends. I still have a big smile on my face from the experience!!

Retired One - that comment made me laugh out loud!!

Dave - calling my siskin a sparrow?! Hmm! Do you have a photo of a siskin eating out of YOUR hand? ha,ha! I'll have to put a tally on the sidebar of my blog and we may have to have the blog readers vote on point worthiness. Also - we should see if anyone else wants to join the handfeeding challenge...

Shelley said...

Leedra - thanks for reminding me that the Chickadees like my hubby more - LOL! They will land on me but seem to like to land on my head, arms, shoulder first before going to my hand. For my husband - they go right to his hand immediately.
