Juvenile Common Loon

This photo was taken last summer while I was fishing with my husband. This juvenile Loon popped up next to us in the boat and then it occured to me he was chasing the fish that was chasing our bait. I'm headed to the cabin and hoping that the Loons will begin nesting soon. There is an artifical Loon raft that was made by one of the Loon Rangers to help a Loon pair along. I believe they have been successful the last 9 summers. Here's to another successful summer!

Isn't the Loon gorgeous! Such a beautiful photo. How cute that he was after the fish that were after your bait :-) You had a little competition!
Happy May Day Shelley.

Wonderful picture Shelley.
I've never seen the young... I saw many of the adults, but they breed in very isolated place here!

This is a nice photo. I think they have the best cry of all birds.

Shelley, I know that even from here, I'll hear you hoopin' and hollerin' when you see your first loon this year... I hope it is this weekend.

Have a wonderful day and week. I'll post one more time in the morning--but then I'll be gone for about 9 days.

Hugs,
Betsy

This photo makes me a bit envious, Shelley. You see, every time we visit my in-laws' lakeside cabin in Wisconsin, I try to photograph the loons. I have yet to get a shot this close and this crisp! Wonderful capture!

Gorgeous photo of a beautiful bird! So did you get the fish or did the loon get it?

The dolphins do the same thing. People think the dolphins follow the boats because people have fed them in the past, but they are following because the boat stirs up goodies for them.

Hope you see lots of loons this weekend....already commented on the loon photo on your other blog.

This is a very pretty shot. A timely capture I should say. Ducks have always added beauty to a pond.

...a beautiful photo of the loon (of course, all of yours are!). I hope they nest and you can capture photos of the babies with your new lens!

Here's hoping that this is the 10th summer that they use the raft.
