Blue Heron

The other day when I was paddling on my kayak as fast as I could to get to the Loon sounds on my lake, I did make a pit stop when I saw this Blue Heron walking along the shore. I am happy to report he lives on our lake too!

Beautiful! The Great Blue Heron is one of my all time favorites! And how neat is it, to have them right around the corner!

Really nice pictures! We have alot of Herons here in NY (as well as Loons). Your pictures were great.

I have a question about kayaks for anyone who reads this. I love canoing, and my husband has a kayak (one of the long narrow ones, can't remember the company) but I am so afraid of rolling over! So I have not gotten one for myself but I would love too. What I need is a nice fat one, to ease me fear. any suggestions?

PS - Seriously, Amelia Earhart would have been my #6!

Hannibal - hope to have more!

KJ - I understand why - you shoot the most beautiful photos of them!

Wendy - Get one of those recreational kayaks - that's what we have. Your legs are more exposed - the opening is wider - and that way if you tip over, you are easily able to get out. I got mine at www.dickssportingoods.com .

NC - thank you!

Sandy - they do seem to be good posers!

Great photos! I love the shading on the first one in particular. Such soft coloring.

Gorgeous shots of the heron. I just read your response to my book comment and I don't think you give yourself enough credit. Taking classes isn't always the option although it is a good thing. I think the best thing is to read the manual yes I said it. Read the manual and play with the camera. Even though I have taken the classes I have found that the manual is one of the very best resources. I have had to read mine in sections and I skipped around back and forth.

Great Blue Herons (one of my favs) are such elegant looking birds, aren't they. I'm so glad to hear you have one residing on your lake. I wonder if you'll be fortunate enough to have a couple breeding herons next year. I guess time will tell.
