All winter I have been wondering where my Red-breasted nuthatches have been. My finches, chickadees, woodpeckers and White-breasted nuthatches have been plentiful. So finally I got a nice morning surprise on one of my pine cone feeders. I've missed you little one!
P.S. Thank you everyone so much for your advice and feedback on my crashed computer situation. I have so many nice blogger friends!! I decided to purchase the computer and wait on the lens. I am still crossing my fingers that my photos can be recovered off the bad computer. Luckily I hadn't deleted the last photos I took on my camera so at least those are preserved!

Ooh, I love the red-breasted nuthatch! Love your pinecone feeder!
Well congrats on the new computer. Have you bought it yet???? SURELY there's a way to retrieve your pictures.. At least I hope there is. Good Luck.
We don't have the Red-breasted Nuthatches here--or at least I haven't seen any. Beautiful bird.
Hugs,
Betsy
You know Shelley, I was just wondering the same thing today- Where are the Red-breasted Nuthatches? Maybe one will show up here too. Good luck on you pix. My husband Art just managed to get some old pix off of a broken laptop over the weekend. If you like I could have him put together an email on how he did it for you. Email me at
l.schoenborn@comcast.net
I'm also happy to see your visitor this morning...your photos are one of the highlight of my day!!!
Glad you have made the decision to get a new computer and lens, so you can continue your beautiful blog.

What a great photo of the nuthatch. So very pretty! Best wishes with retrieving the pics.
What a pretty little visitor you had this morning! I have passed on a blog award to you today :-)
Congrats Shelley :-)
Shelley,
I read all the comments on the other post, and I think you made the right choice! Today's bird and so cute!
Glad to hear - and see - that your computer is feeling better! The nuthatch is just beautiful!
You asked about the mallards..
Shelley asked about the mallards only living 18 months. That is the information that I got from Cornell. Wild mallards face death from predation, hunting, disease and starvation all over not just in NY. I have had mallards return to the pond which meant they were at least 2 years of age and I have had one big drake (male) who is about 3 years of age.
Nice!
I always think God gives us relief in the middle of a crisis and I think HE did just that with the sighting of the RB nuthatch!! A little sunshine in the middle of a cloudy day. Glad you are getting the new computer and I will pray that you find someone who can get the picts off the old one. Beautiful shot of RB Nuthatch.
Shelly: Very nice photo of the nuthatch. I'm doing okay after the fall but feeling a little off today.
Red-breasted Nuthatch is my bird of the week!(http://lansingwbu.blogspot.com/) I hate to see my hummingbirds leave in the fall but then these little nuthatches start coming to my window feeder and I fall in love with winter again.
I think you made the right decision on the comp. but always backup your work on an external flash drive or disc.
Love the photo of the nut hatch and the pine cone feeder is such a clever idea.
Congrats on your new computer. I am sure you will love it.
Great photo Shelly..I am glad you have a new computer! Hopefully your photos will be saved.
I dont know if I have asked you before...but what camera do you use?
and what kind of training do you have in photography..
your photos are wonderful1
That is a lovely shot of the Red-breasted Nuthatch.Good luck with the new computer, and hopefully you don't have to wait too long for that lens.
Blessings,Ruth
The pinecone feeder makes the picture perfect.
Good luck recovering your lost pictures.
oh this is a great bird photo~~~
good for you, a new one~~ good choice.
Hi Shelley, what great colours in this photo. I love the similarity of shades in the breast of the Nuthatch and the cone feeder. I also send my good luck vibes for your hopefully temporary lost photos.
I've been hearing but not seeing our Wood Nuthatches calling all day at work so thanks for showing me your 'RB' version. Nice one Shelly.
This bird is so pretty. I just keep seeing birds I didn't even know existed.
Congrats on the computer! Hope you can recover your photos.

Gorgeous picture, what kind of camera do you sue?
No RBNHs here yet, so it's nice to see your little fella - love the pinecone too!!
You RB Nuthatch is so pretty. We have tons of white breasted ones in my area but seldom do I encounter the RB's.
I answered your question at Country Captures.
Hannibal - I need to make more pinecone feeders - they seem to be more popular than my regular feeders - lol!
Betsy - I did buy my computer - it's an HP Pavillion Notebook and I got it set up today. I love it so far!
Lynne - I will email you - thank you!
Ms. K - happy to see you too!
Mildred - thank you very much!
Deb - you are the sweetest!
Nick - thank you! (On the computer or the nuthatch? LOL!)
Dorothy - I think I made the right choice too...though I am dreaming about all the possibilities w/ that new lens.... lol!
Muse - a new computer brightens up my day luckily!
Rambling - thank you for the info and I'm sad to hear that. It makes me more determined to donate land to the nature conservancy.
Wendy - me or the nuthatch? Just kidding! ha,ha
Jalynn - I think you're right. This little fellow made my day!
Fishing Guy - I'm wishing you a speedy recovery!
Wildbirds - I'll be over to your blog very shortly! And yes - the external hard drive will be used more often now!
Kallen - thank you! Making the pine cone feeders brings back good memories of making them w/ my grandfather when I was a little girl.
Hi Dawn - I use a Canon Rebel XTI and have been winging it! Though I have picked up great tips and advice from fellow bloggers. Klaus at Virtua and Thomas at Walk the wilderness to name a few!
Ruth - from your lips to god's ears! :-) Thank you!
Fiona - I'm still waiting to hear if they can be recovered...hopefully...otherwise I'll cry a couple more days and then move on.
sandy - glad you like him!
Jenny - thank you for your good vibbes! I need them!
Early Birder - hope you see your wood nuthatches soon - I would love to see a photo of them!
Leedra - they are as fun as the white breasted nuthatch to watch!
Bookbabie - thanks so much! I use Canon Rebel XTI.
Birdgirl - I think I've created monsters out of these birds cuz now they are getting quarrelsome over the pine cones as opposed to the other feeders! lol!
Deborah - I hope you see one soon!
Salty - thanks so much for your input. I have the same 400 lens you do and like it. I'm hoping to step it up w/ the Sigma (as the next step Canon lens is several thousand out of my budget currently - LOL!)
Last year I didn't see the RBN till spring and then only for a few days. Absolutely great picture.
Congrats of the new computer.
Shel, what a stunning Nuthatch photo!
...he is so cute on that pinecone...just makes me happy looking at him! Thanks.
Your computer problem has me searching for a way to save my pictures and I am looking into some back up ideas...I am just so seriously lacking computer smarts...but this blogging has inspired me to educate myself and you've inspired me to learn more about photography. I'd say I have at least a life time more of learning
I don't think I've seen any of the red-breasteds here this year, so what a treat Shelley! So glad you worked out your computer conundrum. :c)
Shelley, Your photos are always so colorful ...so hope you are able to retrieve those that were on your computer b/f the crash. Love the red-breasted nuthatch..a real cutie!
I love that! I don't see many rb's - plenty of the whited-breasted cousins, though.
A lovely little nuthatch!
My routine is never to delete photos from my camera until I have them on my computer, and have backed them up to DVD (I really need to get an external hard drive.) i hope your new computer is good to you, and I am still hopeful they will recover your old photos from the baaaad evil nasty crashing computer!!
WOW...WOW...This is so beautiful. Cute bird in a perfect composition. what more can one ask for.
There's something going on at my place today - a missing gem and a reward! Do you have it? Huh? Huh?
A very beautiful Red-breasted Nuthatch. I haven't seen one yet this winter, so send him down here :-) Hope you can retrieve your photos. Since I post so many each day, I always know that my best ones are in the Picasa albums if I lose the ones on the harddrive. Also have an external hard drive to store them, when I remember to use it! Computers are wonderful...until they crash..sigh.
Glad your back. A day without your photos and blog is a day without sunshine. AND here in the NW we need all the sunshine we can get. LOL. Sharon
Wow...so sorry to hear about your computer crash! Glad to have you back posting again, though. I think you made a good choice, because your pictures are all so beautiful and tight already, I can't see why you need the new lens. :-) Love your nuthatch pic and feeder!
P.S. I felt like I was a kindred spirit with you last week, with all our birds and snowy weather! All that was missing was the hot cranberry pecan bread (and a gorgeous log cabin)! ;-)
You have a beautiful picture of my favorite bird, the Red-breasted Nuthatch!
We have 4 of them coming to the feeders everyday. They are a joy to watch.
Have fun with the new computer. I have been looking at the Sigma myself. A friend of mine has one and loves it.
Wow, that is a beautiful photograph.
I hope you are able to recover your lost images.
Hi Shelly,
This is simply an amazing shot, sharp, an astonishing position and attitude of the bird... i love this picture. Well done...
What a pretty little bird! I don't think I've ever seen one like that before. :)
Great photo as usual.. Shell. I had some pc troubles last year, and luckily they were able to get my important stuff of the hard drive.. as long as you hard drive did not crater it should be ok.. I would strongly advise buying an external hard drive.. they just plug in with a USB.. that is where I keep all my important stuff.. and since Helen told me she lost hers once, I TRY to keep that backed up on DVD's (Not so good about doing that one though) good luck
