Great flight pictures and I learned something new. Didn't know about the green band. Guess I'll have to pay more attention but then I normally see them flying away from me so the band wouldn't be showing.

You are so lucky to have loons. I've been in Michigan 2 years and have yet to see one.

I found your blog on Sandpiper's blog roll. I'm always looking for other Michigan bloggers.

Birdlady - I think I'm becoming quite biased that I think they are one of the most beautiful birds!

KJ - A perfect analogy - he is certainly dressed for the opera!

Naturegirl - My sentiments exactly - it's thrilling everytime I can see one.

Texas - gald you enjoyed it!

Richard - Also depending on how the sun is hitting them. Sometimes their eyes seem so crimson red - and then I look again and they're black.

NC - many thanks!

Wren - thank you for the visit -always happy to hear from a fellow michigander! We aren't lucky enough to have the loons in southern Michigan - if you are ever headed up north - I can give you a few lakes to check so you can see the Loons before they migrate.

Just found your blog! Beautiful shot! Love that green stripe on its neck.

Sandy - yes!

Jess - glad you liked the quote. Birdlady always has the good ones!

Birdfeeder Scott - thanks for stopping by!

Hi Birdgirl - the loon's ring appeared more green to me - maybe it was the light reflection. In Michigan - all we get is the Common Loon.

How amazingly aerodynamic they are! I hoped to see a loon while visiting Maine but was sadly disappointed. I haven't seen one for many years now. You are very fortunate!
