In Wednesday's post, I described the Loon's "social gathering" and how it starts. Now here's the funny part - how it ends! The hosting Loons proceed to chase off the visiting loons rather abruptly off their lake. Kind of like "party is over, get off our lake!" My husband and I never laughed so hard watching this Loon pair kick these other loons out. In fact, one was chased right between our 2 kayaks but alas I wasn't quick enough with the camera.
Time to go!
No really, the party is over!

Glad you were there with the camera.
Thats pretty funny how they treat their guests! How RUDE! You captured some great shots along with a great story!
I must say that these are the best Loon shots I have seen in a long, long time. I would not know how to get these kinds of birds to come up and pose for me.
It took 46 years for me to get a crow close enough to take a portrait (That is on My Birds Blog today), but a Loon is so much different and so independent and besides that we don't have enough water for them to land in.
Is is just a case of having a long lens or are you able to get them in close some other way?
I must also tell you that I like this layout and I also like the way you show your photos. Very nice.
Birdlady - me too!
Hannibal - They are rude - rude & funny!
Abe - I have a 400 lens but I do keep a respective distance away in my kayak and try to keep very quiet as Loons are very sensitive and get distressed easily. So I cropped these photos. Thank you for your kind comments!
I've had party guests for whom I considered such treatment!
Great shots. We have so enjoyed the Loons.
Very enjoyable - and it was probably exactly what you said! Get out!!!!
Cheers, Klaus
How can this be....they look so peaceful in your first shots! I think bird behavior is fascinating and thanks so much for sharing the loons.
NC - LOL!! Maybe you can give a loon call to remind the guests to leave!
Klaus - I speak their language..:-)
Gardener - glad you like them. I think they are the most complex water fowl out there!
These action shots of the Loons are wonderful Shelly :-)
Nick - thank you! I'm thinking I might need to get a video camera for next year to film all their ruckus!
Like them, especially the last one.
All week I have enjoyed your loon photos. The mist photos are breathtaking!! They really need to be hung in the log cabin. What an awesome experience to spend the summer with the loons.
Leedra - thank you - I love the misty ones too.
Jess - I'm still trying to take that "perfect" Loon photo - but a great idea to hang them in the cabin!
