I think my hubby would like to pick up on the Green Heron's fishing skills. I watched this fellow snag 3 fish in under 10 minutes. Did you know that they will use bait such as bread crumbs, worms and insects to fish in shallow water and snag their small fish?

So cool! I've never seen one, but have heard stories about their using bait to fish. :c)
Great shot! They got to be good! It's one of my favorites!
Cheers, Klaus
Shelly: Nicely done, I shot one in a tree but never actually saw one fish. This is a super photo.
Very nice job! They are really nice birds...
Your presentation of this bird is magnificent. It really is nice. I was on a blog this morning that was absolutely stunning. The pictures were excellent but the presentation was, something like what you have done, excellent.
I had no idea the herons used bait for fishing. Nice shot of this fascinating bird.
Oh wow! I have never seen one of these before! Nice picture!
Great shot -- and I've learned my new thing for the day about the green heron's fishing habits. Guess I can go back to bed now.
Jayne - I just found out myself!
KJ - Thanks!
Fishing guy - Glad you stopped by. The last few times I saw him before he was always hiding in a tree.
Birdlady - me too!
Abe- many thanks! I would love to visit that person's blog that your mentioned had a good presentation of them. Do you have their site address?
NC - thank you!
wendy - this yr was 1st time I've ever seen one!
Marvin - glad I could provide a lesson today - :-)
Maybe that's where my green heron has gone! I haven't seen him here by my pond in Florida lately. I was reading the comments - a little too fast - and saw that Fishing Guy shot a heron in a tree. After my forehead got all scrunched up I realized he meant with a camera.
Museswings -I bet the green heron loves your pond & will be back!
This is a beautiful photograph of the Green Heron.
Awesome photo. I'm envious of your water birds.
What a great picture--that's one very pretty heron!
