Mr. Downy Woodpecker thinks he's at an all you can eat chinese buffet."One suet plug down.....one more to go!"
We have a collection of downey woodpeckers and a hairy male and female here from time to time but my suet is usually the fancy of some titmouse or chickadee. Your photography is priceless.
You are doing quite well with teh birds. Soon you will be giving good 'ol Abe a run for his money :)Good luck with the tufted titmouse, I'm sure that if you keep working with them that someday one will sit on your hand.
Ha Ha what a little piggy!!
I love the little Downys, and this is a great shot!
I bet your birds just love you when you come to stay! They get taken care of so well! You are a good foster mom to them!
Don't you just love those all you can eat buffets! HA! I always eat too much at those too. It's hard to resist when it is all provided right there for you! Love the little woodpecker, Shelley! :D
I love your Downey and you just reminded me that I have a plug feeder in the garage...thanks so much!
"Hey pal, you've got a little something on your...no-lower, lower...on your mandible...there, that's it!"
Beautiful Downy, Shelley.. I haven't seen one here yet.. BUT--we have a Red-bellied who visits our BUFFET often!!!!! (Our birds are eating us out of house and home now!!!!!)
Love your pictures glad I found your blog.Patsy
Was going to get a suet plug holder but decided to make my own (actually two). Nothing fancy. I'll just pack the holes with Zick Dough and when one is empty, I'll put up the second one. I'll probably post a picture in a few days.
He may be too heavy to fly after such a big lunch. As the Chinese restaurant owner said to the guy who pulled his chair right up to the buffet -"You go home now, you scare my wife."
Still haven't gotten one of these guys to come to our feeder yet. Hoping a new suet recipe will work. Fun picture!
Abe - the downys are plentiful here - but only a pair of hairys right now.Salty- ha - Abe has me beat hands down! I'm going to give the titmouse a 2nd chance to like me.Eve - I think he's still there eating!Jayne - thank you!Hannibal - thanks - I'm feeding both at home and up at the cabin. I have my own brady bunch!!Daisy - and I keep adding more feeders to feed their addiction!Gardener - join the downy fun!Deborah - he's not the cleanest eater - LOL!Betsy - love those red bellys!Patsy - thank you so much for coming by!Richard - looking forward to seeing your feeder and what you get!Muse - I know the comedian you are talking about! ha,ha - "you eat vegetable - you so fat!"Dave - I really need to start making my own suet - I hear the birds prefer the homemade stuff.
Great picture. We have these birds at our feeder regularily.
Well, I guess he is at an 'all you can eat' at Shelley's Diner! great shot - love those Downy woodpeckers!
Hi Shelley! I have something for you at my blog when you have time to stop by. :)
They are so cute. I like those plug feeders but I haven't bought one yet. Do you like it?
I have downy's all the time. Yesterday for the first time every I saw a hairy on my suet feeder. I was so excited to see him. I hope he becomes a regular visitor.
Love the little downy woodpeckers. My suet feeders are busy and I like that kind of suet feeder. I have moved my blog to Word Press. Please stop by and see me...Rambling Woods
I like those little downys, give them some suet to eat and they will stay around for a while and ours will actually put up with me clicking my camera..as they eat! Love your photos , they are always so well done!
Haha, I have that very same suet plug holder. You've reminded me I need to buy more suet today !
I love that picture. Thank you for sharing. I don't think I've ever seen a wood pecker that close. He's really quite lovely.
And from the looks of him he is going fast to keep the other birds from getting it before him. Messy eater.
