Proof that Chickadees like me!

This was taken last year at Hartwick Pines State Park in Grayling, MI. It was amazing - as soon as I stepped out onto the deck - black-capped chickadees were swarming me- landing on my hat and shoulders. These chickadees are used to being hand fed in the winter by visitors. Now if I could only get these chickadees to vouch for me with the chickadees at the log cabin...I'd be all set!

Wow how cool! That is so amazing. I didn't think birds would do that. Girl, you just proved us all wrong! :-)

We did that very same thing at the very same spot last winter when we were vacationing in Grayling. Maybe we even had the same chickadee on our hands! I want to go back to Hartwick Pines again.

Great photo!

Peek-a-boo- Thank you!!

Jayne - wish me luck on getting more!

Birdlady- Same here- I wanted to stay all day!

Jessica - if you go back to Hartwick Pines this year - let me know! Our cabin is only 15 minutes from that park. How cool would that be - we could get a pic of both of us with chickadees!!

Please send a few to the West. I would like a similar picture for my grandchildren. Thank you.

For sure! Next time we make it up north we'll have to meet and have a date with the chickadees. Do you know how I found your blog? It was right before we were going on vacation to Grayling and I was checking the website "Bald Eagle Sightings in Michigan". You had left a comment on the website about spotting an Eagle in Grayling and I was so excited to think that maybe I could see an Eagle while we were there too, which I did. Anyway, that website comment lead me to your blog and I'm so glad it did.

That is so wonderful. Our chickadees are very friendly and will visit our feeders when we are standing close by. I haven't tried to hand feed any of them but you have inspired me to try.

Feeding chickadees in your hand is a magical experience! Good luck getting your log cabin ones to do the same. I have no doubt you'll be successful!

I've had downy woodpeckers and nuthatches eat out of my hands too, and out west it was gray jays. This is a lovely photo!lwmlyaz

My daughter lives a couple of miles from Hartwick Pines and I'll bet you know where I'm going the next time I come to Grayling. Great shot and thanks so much for the info.

You can hear the birds telling each other everything else you would think they would pass the word you were safe. Great to capture a photograph of it.
