Shy and not so shy

This black-capped chickadee was at first being unusally quiet in the tree. Then he came down to my empty bird feeder and starting doing his loud "chick a dee, dee, dee call." I knew what he wanted. I put the camera down, put seeds in my hand, stood next to the bird feeder and waited patiently. He came down and landed on my thumb, cocked his head at me for 3 seconds and then flew away without taking the seed. I'm still building trust....

I see you Mr. Chickadee!

"And I see that you have no bird seed lady!" Come on!

How cute. Black Capped Chick-a-dees are one of my favorite little birds. I can't believe you got the little fellow to land on you hand.

That's just the best! They are so cute, and he'll be eating from your hand before long...it's easier in winter....except that you freeze waiting for them!

So lucky you are to get one to come to you that way. I don't think I have that kind of patience. Maybe someday I will.

The chickadee is my favorite bird. Nice to see you making such close friends with one. Make sure someone is out there to get your picture when he eats out of your hand.

How awesome!! I'm trying to do that with my titmice. I have them landing next to feeder when I am standing beside it but they haven't landed on my hand yet. Precious!!

I have chased those Chick-a-dees all over my yard. Great pics. They do like you to put bird seed in the feeder from time to time. LOL

Have you tried giving them mealworms yet? That's the only way I can get those chickadees to perch on my fingers. A brave & sweet little birdie.
