Evening Grosbeak still hanging around

Went to visit Hartwick Pines State Park in Grayling, MI this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see the Evening Grosbreak still hanging around.

Hartwick contains the largest stand of virgin white pines remaining in the lower peninsula in lower Michigan.

Wow... I've NEVER seen an Evening Grosbeak! I'd be pretty excited if I did. Maybe someday.

That pine grove is amazing! The Evening Grosbeak is the bird I remember most from my childhood. I was sitting with my fathers heavy binoculars in the woods and there is was! I knew what it was when I saw it and was thrilled to see it. (I was a self-taught birder of about 8 years old).

What a pretty bird! I've never seen one before and getting his picture while he is standing on those mountain rocks really helped to focus on his beautiful colorings. Great stuff, Shelly!

How special to spot the Evening Grosbeak!!! I have only see them in the spring at the feeder.

Great pics, Shell, and I have never seen the Hartwick Pines State Park before. It's AWESOME with the virgin white pines.

Your Evening Grosbeak picture is just beautiful. I've only seen this bird once here at my feeders. I see your chickadee just loves your husband. How cool to get those pictures. Next time hand him the camera!!! and you hold out your hand..

Evening Grosbeaks are so neat. I'm glad you got to see this handsome bird and hopefully some will find their way to your feeding station this winter.

That is such a striking bird. Great job capturing it, Shelley! I haven't yet seen one around here, but according to my field guide it winters around here. So I guess I'll need to keep my eyes peeled for this one. I was really excited when I found a family of black-headed grosbeaks visiting my feeder earlier this year (around September).

That picture of the white pines is phenomenal! I absolutely love the serenity of it. I bet it would also look magnificent in the dead of winter if there's snow.
